"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress..." - James 1:27
A blog about Jenny's life wouldn't be complete without shouting about one of her greatest passions: adoption!
Jenny and Athos both agreed to adopt before they were married, regardless of how many biological children they had. Once they moved to Brazil, where it's free for Brazilians and permanent residents to adopt, they put their name on the list and waited to be called years later - if ever - due to the long waiting periods.
Imagine their surprise when around two-and-a-half years later they got a call on a Monday about a preemie born at 24 weeks, and brought him home the SAME WEEK on Saturday! You can read more about Ethan under Jenny's family page, but suffice it to say it has been a blessing, a miracle, and a high calling worthy of God's grace - not to mention LOTS OF FUN!
Here's what Jenny wrote about adoption in a Facebook note about a year after Ethan's arrival.
Are you willing to open your home to a child who needs a family?
It's difficult to adopt from Brazil internationally, but any well-known adoption agency, like Bethany Christian Services - the largest adoption agency in the U.S. - can give you information regarding national and international adoption.
You can also support other families looking to adopt by verbal encouragement, raising funds, or helping the new arrival with baby showers, gifts, clothes, toys, meals, and any blessing for a new child. Unlike birth parents, adoptive parents don't always have time to prepare (as in Jenny's case - a mere five days away from the first phone call!)
If you'd like to talk to Jenny about their adoption experience, or one of Jenny's friends who either are adopted or have adopted both nationally (in the U.S.) or internationally, of the same race or interracially, both with and without other birth children in the family, don't hesitate to email her!
Jenny also writes and runs articles about adoption on her family blog, so please come by and leave a question or a comment!
